IN THE LATEST EPISODE OF THE HOSPITALITY HANGOUT PODCAST, MICHAEL SCHATZBERG “THE RESTAURANT GUY” AND JIMMY FRISCHLING “THE FINANCE GUY” SIT DOWN WITH Steve Elinson, the worldwide head of restaurants and foodservice for Amazon Web Services (AWS), to explore what Amazon offers restaurants today.

Elinson analogizes AWS to Legos: the company offers operators the building blocks for a successful business. At the top is artificial intelligence—including such services as AlexaAmazon RekognitionAmazon PollyAmazon Forecast, and Amazon Connect. In the middle is machine learning, which includes such solutions as Amazon SageMaker. The bottom is the most technical, providing storage, networking, compute, and databases. Amazon Neptune is one such database, offering customers a reliable graph database built for the Cloud that helps brands discover relationships.

“Pre-pandemic, a lot of the conversation [with restaurant clients] was around innovation, disruption, cost, flexibility, and global reach,” says Elinson. “Post-pandemic, elasticity has become the single focus of the conversation.”
