IN THE LATEST EPISODE OF THE HOSPITALITY HANGOUT PODCAST, MICHAEL SCHATZBERG “THE RESTAURANT GUY” AND JIMMY FRISCHLING “THE FINANCE GUY” SIT DOWN WITH Jordan Boesch, the chief executive officer of 7shifts, to explore how the restaurant and hospitality industry has evolved over the course of the pandemic.
“There has been such a rapid pace of evolution that only could have been brought on by something as drastic as a pandemic,” says Boesch. “When it hit, we saw a lot of operators go on hold—25,000 of our 60,000 locations said they couldn’t pay right now. We said it was no problem, and that we were going to figure it out.”
Like many restaurants, 7shifts had to furlough some of its staff to stay afloat. Boesch’s team buckled down, trying to build useful tech for businesses that were staying open. Health check and task management systems were paramount.
“We saw the mindset of operators evolve as well… a number of people [joined the industry] knowing that they’d need a labor management system and communication tools,” notes Boesch. “It was pretty refreshing to see that people put so much emphasis on these things that were traditionally more cost savers than revenue drivers.”
