IN THE LATEST EPISODE OF THE HOSPITALITY HANGOUT PODCAST, MICHAEL SCHATZBERG “THE RESTAURANT GUY” AND JIMMY FRISCHLING “THE FINANCE GUY” SIT DOWN WITH Chris Webb, the chief executive officer and co-founder of ChowNow, to explore how restaurants today are enhancing and elevating their online ordering system.
Founded in 2011, ChowNow is an online ordering platform dedicated to helping local restaurants connect and form relationships with customers. ChowNow differentiates itself in part by not charging a commission fee. Restaurants simply pay a flat monthly fee for the software; the fee remains the same regardless of the number of orders. While developing ChowNow, Webb and his team quickly realized that restaurants hated commission fees because they were paying for repeat customers—the same customers were ordering via the third party platform again and again.
“Like a lot of companies in our space, COVID has transformed [us], and where the business is today is very different than where it was 8 months ago,” says Webb. “We have grown to be the market leader within our space, working with independent restaurants and smaller chains that have six to eight locations, setting them up, getting their front of house set up online.”
